Multiple Impressions: Contemporary Chinese Woodblock Prints

July 16–October 23, 2011

This exhibition presents works by forty-one leading printmakers from contemporary China to showcase the extraordinary innovations, in both technique and conception, which have transformed this long-established art form in recent years.

Public Art Memorial Ready For 10th Anniversary

The 9/11 memorial created for the Saline Fire Department is hanging outside the fire station on Michigan Avenue. Over the past month, the Saline Art Department, Saline Fire Department, and the Saline community worked together to create this public art piece titled, “ Holding Heroes in our Hearts – Never Forget 343”. The memorial was created to honor the 343 New York Firefighters that lost their lives
September 11, 2001.

The involvement of the Saline community is what makes this memorial so special. Community members helped create the artwork by writing the names of the 343 firefighters on the background. Children of all ages did their part by pressing their painted hands over the firefighters names. Local businesses and organizations helped out by donating time, space, and their expertise. People of all ages shared their memories, experiences, and emotions of what happened that day.

9/11 Anniversary Memorial

The Saline Art Department and the Saline Fire Department are working together on a public memorial commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The memorial will be hung outside of the Saline Firehouse facing Michigan Avenue.

We are inviting the Saline Community to help us complete this piece of art at two upcoming events.

Saline Farmer’s Market - Downtown Saline S. Ann Arbor Street
Saturday, August 27th 8 am - 12 pm
Please stop by to help write the names of the 343 Firefighters whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001.

Saline Fair Grounds in the Saline Area Schools Merchant Barn
Tuesday, August 30th 12 pm – 4pm
Pre-School – 12th Grade Students please stop by to print your hands over the written heroes names.

Reality Street Painting

A unique way to use a car is like a brush. Dutch artist Iepe Rubingh used eco-friendly paint to create a performance piece in a Berlin intersection. I might be slightly upset that I got paint all over my car, but to see the results as a very interesting way to record our movements would be really cool. I suppose that this would be quite a distraction in any intersection. The German motorists in this video deserve all the credit as they keep things together and don't create an accident.

Picasso Stolen

A thief walked into a San Francisco gallery, took a Picasso drawing off the wall, and then left in a taxi. It sounds like it took the robber as long as it is taking you to read this. Why? I always say this when someone steals art. Why? Don't you just wonder why they felt it was so important to steal a work of art? The worst thing of all is that the robber has ruined it for everyone else. Now nobody will be able to enjoy, appreciate, and learn from that drawing.
