Empty Bowls Are Filled With Success!

Cindy Larsen, Janet Hughes, Cyndi Koppleman

The 2011 Saline Area Schools Empty Bowl event is proud to announce that Food Gathers was presented with a check for $2,820.97 from the ticket sales and celebrity bowl auction! What a pleasure to be part of such a terrific event. We were able to showcase what wonderful ceramic programs Saline Schools has, all while raising money for charity. In addition, the Saline Art Department would like to announce that we plan on holding a 2nd Empty Bowls for 2012! Because the event sold out, please be sure to order your tickets in advance and help us continue to raise money for Food Gathers. Look for more details during the 2011-2012 school year.

Goalie Masks

The evolution of the goalie mask has developed over the years since the very first mask worn by Jacques Plante. Now the youngest goalies all the way up to the NHL wear masks like a canvas. Many exemplify team pride and some go beyond, making a very personal connection to the player behind the mask. To check out more goalie mask artwork, visit the website of David Arrigo, an artist that works in the art of sport.

Empty Bowls Update Part 3 - Harvest

These are a few of the bowls designed and glazed by the 3rd graders of Harvest. In the picture from left to right is Samantha Rice, Reagan Recchia, Noah Nelson, Jason Head, Erin O'Neill

Harvest 3rd grade students made 130 bowls by rolling out slabs of clay, pressing in design "pads" and pressing them into different shaped molds. After a bisque firing in the kiln, the students glazed all the bowls with two coats of glaze and bowls were fired again to achieve the beautiful colors you see in this picture.
